GOSPEL   John 15:9-17

Gospel Reflection

Anyone who happened to be in a selfish mood when they heard this gospel could not get away from it. Love is everywhere in Jesus' conversation with his friends at the Last Supper. He gives them and us his memorable commandment: "Love one another as I love you." It sounds simple. But he reminds us that loving as he does involves a willingness to "lay down one's life for one's friends."

During Lent we saw this love of Jesus in action. Now during the Easter season we rejoice that such love is victorious over sin and death. 

Who in your life gives evidence that God is love?

Discussion Points for Gospel

How many times does Jesus use some form of the word "love" in this gospel reading? Why do you think he repeats it so often? In what ways does Jesus describe how he loves us? What is your favorite statement in this reading? Why? If you had been present at the Last Supper, how do you think Jesus' words would have affected you?

In what small, ordinary ways do you see members of your family, class, or parish "laying down their lives" for others? Consider how they place the needs and desires of others before what they want. Recall how they sacrifice their own time, talents, and material goods to help others.

Reflexión

Todo el que ha tenido un deseo egoísta, cuando escucha este evangelio tiene que pensar. Amor es sobre lo que Jesús habla con sus amigos en la última cena. El les da y nos da a nosotros su memorable mandamiento "Amen unos a otros como yo los he amado". Suena simple. Pero él nos recuerda que amar como él incluye tener la voluntad de "dar la vida por sus amigos".

Durante la Cuaresma vimos este amor de Jesús en acción. Ahora durante la Pascua nos regocijamos deque tal amor triunfe sobre la muerte.  

¿Cómo tu vida evidencia que Dios es amor?

¿Cuántas veces Jesús usa la palabra amor y un derivado de ella en esta lectura del evangelio? ¿Por qué crees que la repite con tanta frecuencia? ¿En qué formas Jesús describe como él nos ama? ¿Cuál es tu afirmación favorita en esta lectura? ¿Por qué? Si hubieses estado presente en la última cena, ¿cómo crees que te hubieran afectado las palabras de Jesús?

¿De qué pequeñez, forma corriente, ves miembros de tu familia, tu escuela o parroquia "dando su vida por sus amigos"? Considera como ellos ponen las necesidades y deseos de los demás antes que sus necesidades. Recuerda como sacrifican su tiempo, talentos y cosas para ayudar a otros.





SPRING CLEANUP DAY COMING

After a rainy winter, the gardens at Corpus Christi need some attention.  We have some very healthy weeds courtesy of the rain. Also, the bushes and plants need trimming. Bring your gloves, garden tools, time and talent.  We’ll be starting at 9 a.m.
