Altar Servers

Generally, altar servers are young parishioners who assist the priest by holding the prayer book, setting and clearing the altar table, and handing the priest the items he need during Mass.  Young persons from grades four of the elementary school up to and including seniors in high school are welcome.   Back to Top

Altar Linen Ministry

The individuals of this ministry wash and iron all of the various small linens used for Masses, such as purificators and corporals.    Back to Top

Church Art Environment

This ministry seeks to create in the church a beautiful place to worship by way of decorations, flowers, and colors appropriate to the season.  This ministry also includes ordering and maintaining candles for the sanctuary and maintenance of the holy water fonts.    Back to Top

Liturgy Board

Liturgy is the center of our parish life and faith community.  The primary objective of the parish team is to serve the parish by planning and improving the quality of our liturgical celebrations, especially the Sunday Eucharist.  To this end, there is a Liturgy Board to evaluate liturgies, coordinate and develop the liturgical ministries, and educate the Parish about liturgy.  This Liturgy Board deals with our English Language services.  There is a Liturgy Committee in Spanish as well.    Back to Top

Ministers of the Eucharist

The Eucharist Ministry assists in the distribution of the communion at mass. Ministers of the Eucharist also take communion to the elderly and the ill of the parish and to those in nursing homes served by the Parish.  These parishioners share the gift of God's presence by ministering Christ's body and blood to members of His Church.  Training is required and provided for all ne ministers.    Back to Top

Ministers of the Word (Lectors)

The Lector Ministry proclaims the word of God at the celebration of the Eucharist.  Lectors must have good enunciation, be able to speak slowly, clearly, and prayerfully and proclaim the Word to the people on assigned dates. Training is required and provided for those wishing to participate in this ministry.    Back to Top

Music Ministry

The music ministry enhances the liturgy by encouraging active participation of the congregation in song prayer.  Members participate in special liturgies during the year through musical expression of worship.    Back to Top

Respect Life Ministry

As we seek to live the Gospel of Life and recognize the value of each human life, the respect Life Ministry of Corpus Christi coordinates parish activities, communicates with the diocesan Respect Life Office and other nearby parishes in order to promote the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death.    Back to Top

Scriptural Rosary Ministry

All are invited to join the Scriptural Rosary Group which prays every Monday night from 7:30-8:00 PM in the church.  Come and experience the mysteries of Christ's life in this beautiful meditation.  Enter by the side door across from the rectory.    Back to Top

Ushers

Ushers greet parishioners at the door of the church and are responsible for setting examples of reverence during services.  They take up the collection during mass, enlist parishioners to carry gifts to the altar and direct parishioners during communion.     Back to Top


COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Catholic Youth Organization (C. Y. O.)

C.Y.O. encourages Christian values through dedication of teamwork and sportsmanship.  The Corpus Christi C.Y.O. provides the means of formation and support of youth basketball.  Teams and cheerleaders from 3rd to 9th grades to represent the parish in the C.Y.O. league.    Back to Top

Church Maintenance Ministry

The church maintenance ministry involves the regular upkeep of the church and includes dusting, polishing, and other activities associated with keeping the church ready for worship services.  Volunteers are welcome and may set their own schedules.    Back to Top

Hospitality Group

The hospitality ministry members welcome all parishioners, especially newcomers, as they participate in parish functions.  They provide coffee, donuts and hospitality after mass on special days on an ad hoc basis. Volunteers are needed and are welcome.    Back to Top

Hospital Ministry

Together with the other parishes of Fremont, Newark, and Union City, Corpus Christi Parish sponsors a chaplain for Washington Hospital.  This is a full time hospital ministry under the direction of the chaplain.  Fr. Richard Peiris, who is named by the diocesan office.    Back to Top

Italian Catholic Federation

This organization has been established for practicing Catholics who are Italian by birth or origin.  Persons of other nationalities may be admitted. They place significant emphasis on the family.    Back to Top

Kitchen Maintenance

The kitchen maintenance ministry oversees the upkeep of the kitchen and pantry area of the parish hall.  Inventory of kitchen and pantry supplies is included.  Any problems with the functioning of kitchen equipment is reported.  Volunteers are welcome.    Back to Top

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus, a national organization of Catholic men serving the needs of the church and community, is a fraternal service organization with goals of service to Corpus Christi Parish.  We welcome men 18 years of age and older who are practicing Catholics, and who desire to be of service to the church.  Meetings are held in the parish hall.    Back to Top

St. Vincent de Paul

St. Vincent de Paul provides material and spiritual assistance to the poor and needy through personal contact and in strict confidence.  The Corpus Christi Conference of St. Vincent de Paul fulfills these corporal works of mercy in an organized way.  It represents the parish community in helping the needy with gifts of food, clothing, etc. in emergency situations. The special collection taken up on the Fifth Sunday of the months, is used to help in this work.  St. Vincent de Paul works closely with many other groups to provide services to those in need, including Tri-Cities, SHARE, and other churches in the area.  St. Vincent de Paul meets every Monday at 4 P.M. in the hall.    Back to Top

Young Ladies Institute (Y.L.I.)

The Y.L.I.-Corpus Christi Institute # 74 is dedicated to our Lady of Guadalupe and offers friendship and a common bond with Catholic women. It is dedicated to the Christian principles of charity and love.  Their purpose is to help others and assist the parish in many ways.   Back to Top

Small Faith Communities

Parishioners are invited to join with fellow parishioners to come together in prayer and good works.  These groups meet at the home of one of the group members. These activities follow the Renew Program conducted by the Parish over a three year period. (1994-1997).    Back to Top


PARISH COMMITTEES

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is a group of parishioners who assist the pastor monitor the financial aspects of running the parish.  They assist in creating a budget, suggesting how the collected funds are to be used and how monies can be saved.  Members are appointed by the pastor.    Back to Top

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council is a  volunteer group of parishioners who, together with the pastor, is responsible for planning and maintaining  the long-range vision of God's ministry for Corpus Christi Parish.  This group works with the pastor to make decisions about the spiritual life of the parish.    Back to Top

Stewardship Committee

The mission of the Stewardship committee is to educate all Corpus Christi parishioners that, as members of this Christian community, we are stewards and, thus, caretakers of all God's gifts. We seek to instill in each individual the need to express gratitude for and to share all God's gifts.  We seek to encourage each person to participate in stewardship activities through the commitment of their time, talent and treasure with the parish community, so that each parishioner feels welcome and empowered to become an active member of Corpus Christi Parish.

Welcoming Committee

The welcoming committee is comprised mostly of Greeters at Mass who call and visit newly registered parishioners to welcome them to the parish.    Back to Top
